Good Luck Getting Away From Florida Highway Patrol’s Dodge Challenger

Cars Carscoops

FHP Jackonsville's new Challenger R/T patrol car uses a 375 HP, 5.7-liter HEMI V8.
'The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) has added a new model to its flet: the 2019 Dodge Challenger . It features the mandatory two-tone livery and decals, as all other patrol cars. In a FHP Jacksonville tweet, some of the features of the muscle car have been brought forward. More specifically, it comes with the 360-degree camera system and new lighting package, which adds emergency lights, although the example pictured in the gallery below lacks them. Also Read: The 2019 Dodge Charger Enforcer Is An Impressive Piece Of Police Kit But It Needs A V8 They have also revealed the power unit, which is the 5.7-liter, HEMI V8. The engine produces 375 hp (380 PS / 280 kW) and 410 lb-ft (555 Nm) of torque and can be connected to a standard six-speed manual or an optional eight-speed automatic transmission in the 2019 Challenger R/T , which has a $34,100 MSRP. The output is more than sufficient for most, but there are far more powerful versions of the Challenger out there. You can get the 485 hp, 6.4-liter V8 R/T Scat Pack or spend more and opt for the SRT Hellcat, with its 717 HP, 6.2-liter supercharged V8. However, it’s the SRT Hellcat Redey e you’ll want to check out closer if you’re in dire need of more power, as its V8 develops 797 hp. It needs only 3.4 seconds to accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h), has a 203 mph (326 km/h) top speed and can run the quarter mile in 10.8 seconds, at 131 mph (210 km/h). Maybe if FHP wants to catch those new ‘Vettes that are bound to roam the highways in droves (relatively speaking, of course), they should consider those variants for their next purchase.'

Marco Wittmann celebrates third DTM win of the season

Cars BMW BLOG

'Difficult conditions, excellent result: Marco Wittmann (GER) has triumphed in the ninth race of the 2019 DTM season for BMW at Assen (NED). At the legendary ‘TT Circuit’, the BMW Team RMG driver in the Schaeffler BMW M4 DTM celebrated his third win of the season, from pole position.Philipp Eng (AUT, ZF BMW M4 DTM), Timo Glock (GER, JiVS BMW M4 DTM) and Sheldon van der Linde (RSA, Shell BMW M4 DTM) also reached the points, finishing in fourth, fifth and tenth places.Outside the top ten, Bruno Spengler (CAN, BMW Bank M4 DTM) and Joel Eriksson (SWE, CATL BMW M4 DTM) crossed the line in 15th and 16th positions. The forecast rain arrived just as the cars were lining up on the grid.Every practice session up to that point had taken place in the dry, so the weather conditions meant race control deciding to start the race behind the safety car.The ninth race of the season was finally given the green light after three laps, but the safety car reappeared just one lap later after an Aston Martin had retired. At the head of the field, Wittmann remained calm and in control. His overtaking manoeuvre against Nico Müller (SUI, Audi) just before the end proved decisive.Müller had rejoined just ahead of the BMW driver after his pit stop, but Wittmann was able to make his move stick. This was the 86th DTM win for BMW, and the fifth of the 2019 season.Wittmann celebrated his 14th triumph in 103 races and moved into the top ten of the all-time DTM winners’ list.He is now in ninth place in the standings, together with Johnny Cecotto (VEN) and Alessandro Nannini (ITA). This was the 20th DTM win for BMW Team RMG.Eng now has 111 points under his belt and is still the best-placed BMW driver, remaining third in the drivers’ standings, while Wittmann has moved up to fourth position (100). BMW scored 51 points in the manufacturers’ standings and ranks second with 388 points, behind Audi (508). Reactions to the ninth DTM race of the 2019 season at Assen.Rudolf Dittrich (General Manager BMW Motorsport Vehicle Development): “From A to Z, that was a spectacular race here at Assen.Congratulations to Marco Wittmann and BMW Team RMG on a fantastic qualifying performance and race victory.Despite the difficult conditions, Marco showed his real class at the front and was in control during every phase of the race with a faultless performance and outstanding pace. That was an important win for him.Of course, the rain just before the start of the race provided plenty of extra action.I am happy that we managed to score points with four drivers.Philipp Eng is still in the leading group in the DTM and Timo Glock once again performed with impressive pace after a few difficult races to record a great result. We have had a fantastic race weekend here so far, starting on Thursday with a wonderful fan event. The circuit itself proved to be extremely interesting – for fans and drivers alike. In dry conditions, the cars race through the fastest turn at over 260 km/h, with lateral acceleration of more than 3g.That is impressive. The changeable conditions also did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the large crowds. We are now looking forward to Sunday – hopefully with a similar result to today.” Bart Mampaey (BMW Team RBM Team Principal): “It was a very wet race. And of course, we had no experience of these conditions here at Assen, which turned it into something of a lottery.Congratulations to BMW and Marco Wittmann on the excellent performance. The race went well for Philipp Eng; moving up from ninth to fourth is a good result. He had decent pace and drove an excellent race.It is great that we managed to score another point with Sheldon van der Linde. We will have to analyse exactly what the problem was with Joel Eriksson’s car but I am sure that we will be able to push him on again tomorrow. Now we are looking forward to tomorrow.” Philipp Eng (#25 ZF BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RMR, Grid: 9th, Race: 4th, Drivers’ standings: 3rd, 111 points): “It was extremely wet at the start and there was a lot of water on the track. It did dry out very quickly though. My car was good; I just lost a bit too much time at the start and that meant I was not able to attack the podium. But those are important points and there is a long way to go yet in the championship.” Joel Eriksson (#47 CATL BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RBM, Grid: 10th, Race: 16th, Drivers’ standings: 10th, 43 points): “We had a few problems with the car during the race.We will have to take a closer look at that.We didn’t have the right pace today. But you could see that the other BMW drivers were right on the pace. That is a glimmer of hope for me and we will try to go back on the attack tomorrow.” Sheldon van der Linde (#31 Shell BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RBM, Grid: 7th, Race: 10th, Drivers’ standings: 12th, 26 points): “I got through the first few turns after the start pretty well, but then I felt contact at the back and spun around.Luck was not on our side.I think we had the speed and now we just need a bit more luck.In general, the year is going well for me.” Stefan Reinhold (BMW Team RMG Team Principal): “When you take the weather conditions into account, that is a fantastic result. The team did a great job in qualifying this morning.Bruno Spengler was a bit unlucky. In my opinion, the drive-through penalty was not entirely justified.Timo Glock is back where he belongs.Marco Wittmann delivered another masterful performance. The entire crew deserves great credit for some superb pit stops and a top strategy. All in all, it was a good day and we are now doubly motivated for tomorrow.” Marco Wittmann (#11 Schaeffler BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RMG, Grid: 1st, Race: 1st, Drivers’ standings: 4th, 100 points): “Coming back like this to claim pole position and the win after the difficult race weekend at the Norisring is just magnificent. The conditions were anything but easy.We had plenty of question marks about how the set-up and the car would work in the wet but everything went just fine. The two Audis put me under pressure from time to time but I was able to build up a comfortable lead by the end. This victory is just great.” Bruno Spengler (#7 BMW Bank M4 DTM, BMW Team RMG, Grid: 8th, Race: 15th, Drivers’ standings: 5th, 77 points): “Congratulations to Marco Wittmann and the team on this brilliant win, the second in a row for the BMW Team RMG.That is brilliant, and everyone did a great job once again. My situation was a bit unfortunate.I made light contact with Sheldon van der Linde in turn five.I then received a drive-through penalty, which I think was a bit harsh as I was on the inside and I couldn’t do very much.I did just touch him though, spinning him around, and I am very sorry about that.It was a shame, but tomorrow is a new day.” Timo Glock (#16 BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RMR, Grid: 5th, Race: 5th, Drivers’ standings: 11th, 33 points): “It was a good race. Our pace was very, very good.It was a shame that I ended up in the gravel trap but there was not a lot I could do as the rear wheels just locked. However, at the end we showed that the speed was very good. This allowed us to move up to fifth.” The article Marco Wittmann celebrates third DTM win of the season appeared first on BMW BLOG'

One-Off Pagani Huayra Hermes Edition Is Both Fierce And Lavish

Cars Carscoops

Apart from the finest leather from the French luxury house, this Huayra also features the desirable Tempesta package.
'You know you’ve really made it when you are able to convince Pagani and Hermes to collaborate to build you your dream car. Manny Khoshbin is one of those people. The real estate mogul took delivery of his custom Pagani Huayra almost four years ago and has just released a video detailing the Italian hypercar. What makes his Huayra distinct from all others is the stunning brown carbon fiber finished across the exterior. Additionally, it sports grilles with the Hermes logo to give it an extra special flair. Also Read: A ‘Subtle’ Pagani Huayra Is Heading For Auction In August Much like the outside, the interior is also bespoke and includes some of the finest leathers which Hermes uses for its high-end handbags and other products. The combination of brown and white leather is extremely glamorous and perfectly fitting for a car with a multi-million dollar price tag. Khoshbin ordered his Huayra with a set of leather luggage from Hermes, which he also shows off in this video. Remarkably, Khoshbin he had never actually opened the luggage compartments beneath the car’s carbon fiber skin before making this video and found a number of hidden goodies in there, including a Pagani air compressor which he didn’t even know existed! The car also includes the (optional) Tempesta package which adds special wheels, a new front splitter, revised suspension setup, and a titanium exhaust. This exhaust makes the twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 absolutely roar and produce a truly evocative tone. There’s also an expensive Sonus Faber audio system in the car, though Khoshbin says he’s never used it, preferring to just listen to the engine and exhaust. We fully understand – actually, we reckon we’d never press the “on” button ever, either.'

BMW 8 Series gets rendered again as a Shooting Brake

Cars BMW BLOG

The guys from J.B.Cars deliver an interesting take on what a Shooting Brake could look like in BMW 8 Series clothes.
'The guys from J.B.Cars deliver an interesting take on what a Shooting Brake could look like in BMW 8 Series clothes. We definitely wouldn’t say no to such a contraption, especially since it would sit nicely next to all those Ferrari F12s out there or even the new GTC4Lusso, but the odds of such a BMW design to happen are slim to none. The Photoshop exercise shows the car being lowered closer to the ground coupled with a new take on the taillights.Looking at it you realize just how complex the rear end is, accentuated here by the presence of a big, simple shape, embodied by the rear window.Furthermore, the car’s roofline has been elongated for additional sleekness and the trunk opening is big enough to accommodate nearly every imaginable car cargo. The shoulder line sits slightly higher than the regular 8 Series Coupe and offers some additional width which emphasizes the sportiness of the 8 Series Shooting Brake.More shooting brake models were brought out in the 60s and 70s, some more popular than others.Today, Mercedes-Benz is probably selling the most cars in this guise, with the CLS and CLA models being the most popular examples, even though they are quite far off from the original concept that came with only two doors. An 8 Series Shooting Brake would give the CLS version a run for its money but in these troubling times, BMW will most likely choose not to invest into making a model that caters to such a small niche. It’s an interesting thought though. The article BMW 8 Series gets rendered again as a Shooting Brake appeared first on BMW BLOG'

Next BMW 5 Series will likely have at least two electric variants

Cars BMW BLOG

BMW set out ambitious goals a couple of years back, when their ACES strategy was unveiled.
'BMW set out ambitious goals a couple of years back, when their ACES strategy was unveiled.Back then, the plan was to offer 25 electrified models by 2025, not just to cut CO2 emissions but also to keep up with the competition.Last month , outgoing CEO Mr.Harald Kruger moved the goal two years ahead of schedule, in 2023.The company also announced that out of the 25 electrified models that will be available for purchase in 2023, more than half will be fully electric. One model which will help achieve the EV number is the next generation 5 Series which will arrive in 2023.The refreshed 5 Series will not only sport a brand-new design language, but will also be integral to the electrification strategy.According to sources in Munich, the 5 Series will bring to market at least two fully-electric drivetrains.Herr Krueger said last year that the i4 and iNext future models will be coming with the company’s fifth generation of eDrive technology which means it will be delivering the performance we’re all waiting for: “With the fifth generation of eDrive, our vehicles will be able to drive 550 to 700 kilometers on electric power, depending on the model. We will achieve this in the BMW i4 and the iNEXT.” That strategy will apply to the electric 5 Series which is also likely to get a new naming convention outside of the BMW i spectrum. While the final battery capacity has yet to be finalized, we expect the 5 Series electric to offer at least 60-80 kWh battery packs for a total electric range starting at 300 miles. What’s even more interesting than the battery packs and electric miles is the option between a rear-wheel drive electric 5 Series or one equipped with the xDrive system, which will ensure that the 5 Series caters to customers around the world.BMW has already teased a future 5 Series electric vehicle through the unveil of the “Power BEV” prototype which provides a total power output of around 720 hp (530kW) and acceleration from 0-62 mph in under three seconds. The article Next BMW 5 Series will likely have at least two electric variants appeared first on BMW BLOG'

Jaguar Land Rover and BMW expand their engine deal

Cars BMW BLOG

According to Autocar UK, the partnership between Jaguar Land Rover and BMW will extend to include internal combustion engines as well.
'According to Autocar UK , the partnership between Jaguar Land Rover and BMW will extend to include internal combustion engines as well.Last month, the two automakers agreed to work together on the development of electrified powertrains, but according to sources they have now agreed terms on what is described as a “more far-reaching deal involving petrol, diesel and hybridized drivelines” for a wide range of models.According to Autocar’s sources, BMW is to supply Jaguar Land Rover with internal combustion engines, including in-line four- and six-cylinder units “both with and without electrically-assisted hybrid functions”. The extended deal will allow Jaguar Land Rover to reduce their investment in ICE and instead focus on the drivetrains of the future.BMW also comes out as a winner in this deal by offsetting some of their ICE development costs. Also, by joining forces on both electric and internal combustion engine drivelines, Jaguar Land Rover and BMW hope to reap the rewards of increased economies of scale while sharing development costs to remain competitive. The article Jaguar Land Rover and BMW expand their engine deal appeared first on BMW BLOG'
